5 Teknik Pemasaran Bernasib Sial

Lima strategi pemasaran yang berakhir sial karena harus berurusan dengan pihak berwajib atau pesan yang tidak sampai. Berikut lima teknik pemasaran yang bernasib sial:

1. Perusahaan: Snapple
Tahun kejadian: 2005

Skenario: Snapple berupaya mencetak es krim berbentuk popsicle terbesar di dunia yang dibuat dari juice Snapple yang membeku. Popsicle ini rencananya memiliki tinggi 25 kaki dan berat 17,5 ton.

Yang terjadi: es krim meleleh. Ketika sebuah alat berat mengangkat es krim beku ini ke posisi yang sudah ditentukan di Time Square, New York City, salah seorang staf dari Snapple membuat telepon mendadak yang mengindikasikan ada hal yang tidak beres.

Dengan suhu lokasi yang mencapai 8 derajat celcius, es krim tersebut meleleh lebih cepat dan membuat banjir cairan beraroma kiwi dan stroberi di sepanjang jalan Manhanttan, Amerika Serikat.

Musibah sial itu tidak hanya berhenti di sini, karena berdasarkan catatan laman Associated Press, pemadam kebakaran terpaksa menutup jalan dan menggunakan selang untuk membersihkan kotoran dari cairan Snapple tersebut.

2. Perusahaan: JMP Creative
Tahun kejadian: 1990

Skenario: Pesulap yang beralih profesi menjadi tenaga pemasaran, Jim McCafferty, berupaya mempromosikan bisnis marketing dengan cara promosi menggunakan trik pesulap terkenal Houdini.

Dalam aksinya kali ini, McCafferty rencananya menggunakan jaket yang terikat ketat dan dimasukkan dalam kurungan baja yang diangkat oleh sebuah alat berat hingga ketinggian 300 kaki. Skenarionya, McCafferty akan lolos dari jaket dan kurungan tersebut dalam dua menit dan menyelamatkan dirinya dari kemungkinan kurungan yang jatuh ke lantai.

Yang terjadi: McCafferty berhasil lolos dari ikatan jaket yang ketat, namun ketegangan belum berhenti karena dia harus keluar dari kurungan yang rusak dengan waktu tersisa hanya 1 menit.

Berjuang dengan kurungan yang rusak, dia berusaha untuk naik ke bagian atap kurungan dengan sisa waktu 10 detik. Namun, sebelum dia bisa mengikatkan dirinya pada sebuah pegangan, waktunya telah habis dan kurungan tersebut dijatuhkan, sehingga membuatnya terbawa dalam kurungan sejauh 60 kaki sebelum sampai ke tanah. Beruntung, McCafferty berhasil mengikatkan dirinya sebelum kurungan tersebut benar-benar menyentuh lantai.

Akibatnya, mantan pesulap ini pun harus diangkut ke dalam ambulans karena menderita luka bakar akibat lilitan tambang.

3. Vodafone
Tahun kejadian: 2002

Skenario: Pada pertandingan rugby antara Selandia Baru dan Australia, dua orang streaker menyela permainan dan berlari telanjang di seputar lapangan dengan hanya memakai logo Vodafone di tubuhnya.

Yang terjadi: aparat kepolisian menangani kasus tersebut dan menahan kedua orang streaker sebelum pertandingan berakhir. Memang aksi tersebut berhasil menyedot perhatian dan publisitas dari media. Namun, aksi tersebut memaksa CEO Vodafone, Garahme Maher, harus meminta maaf kepada publik karena aksi kedua orang tersebut yang dianggap melanggar hukum.

Perusahaan juga divonis harus menyumbangkan sekitar 30 ribu poundsterling untuk kegiatan kampanye non-profit mengenai upaya pengurangan cedera akibat olahraga.

4. Perusahaan: Sony
Tahun kejadian: 2005

Skenario: Sony menggunakan cara promosi dengan membuat seni desain grafiti dengan motif beberapa gambar Playstation Portabel di sejumlah lokasi di New York.

Yang terjadi: Banyak pihak yang membenci gambar iklan tersebut, lagipula siapa yang mau ada coretan grafiti di tengah kota. Beberapa pihak juga melihat aksi ini sebagai aksi yang kasar daripada melihatnya sebagai langkah yang cerdas. Ada juga yang beranggapan Sony ingin memperoleh tenaga kerja murah dengan menggunakan tenaga pekerja cilik.

Sebuah petisi online bahkan mulai banyak berkomentar dengan menyatakan, "Hentikan eksploitasi artis grafiti" atau "saya tidak akan membeli produk Sony lagi."

5. Perusahaan: Pontiac
Tahun kejadian: 2004

Skenario: Jika anda belum pernah mendengar, dalam sebuah acara Oprah Winfrey Show, pembawa acara kenamaan ini pernah membagikan Pontiac bagi setiap penonton yang hadir di studio.

Yang terjadi: Penonton sangat gembira dengan hadiah yang tak terduga ini dan insan media memberitakan hal ini di seluruh dunia. Namun, ahli periklanan menganggap pemenang sesungguhnya adalah Oprah, bukan perusahaan pembuat mobil Pontiac. Semua orang mengapresiasi Oprah sebagai orang dermawan, bukan Pontiac.

Pemenang Pontiac juga harus menelan kekecewaan karena harus menanggung pajak yang besar, dan konsumen yang ingin membeli Pontiac G6 juga ternyata belum bisa memenuhi keinginan tersebut karena mobil itu tidak tersedia di dealer mobil.
